II. SENTENCE PRACTICE: Oral Exercises
NOTE: When we talk about events that occur in the same way each
time that they occur, or when we talk about things that are normally or generally
true, we often use sentences with the words "when" or "if." In this kind of sentence
"when" and "if" have approximately the same meaning. Compare the two example
sentences that state "water freezes at 0°c."
(1) When the temperature falls below zero degrees centigrade, water freezes.
(2) If the temperature falls below zero degrees centigrade, water freezes.
1. Use the information given to make "if" sentences as shown below.
Examples:
Information: Winter/Northern Hemisphere.
Say: "If it is winter in the northern hemisphere, it is summer
. in the southern hemisphere."
Information: Winter/Southern Hemisphere.
Say: "If it is winter in the southern hemisphere, it is summer
in the northern hemisphere."
